Company Overview
The University of Maryland is the flagship campus of the state's higher education system and a top-ranked research institution. The School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation, Maryland's Built Environment School, offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Architecture, as well as graduate programs in Community Planning, Historical Preservation, and Real Estate Development, more than a dozen dual-degree masters programs, an interdisciplinary PhD program in Urban and Regional Planning and Design and is home to the National Center for Smart Growth Research and Education and the Environmental Finance Center.
Company History
The Architecture Program has a national reputation for design excellence in building craft, urban design, and sustainability as evidenced by the award-winning Integrated Design studio and Advanced Technology course sequence; numerous honors in the arena of urban design including two ULI-Hines Competition wins and six times in the final four in ten years; WaterShed, the first-place winner at the 2011 United States Department of Energy Solar Decathlon along with LeafHouse (second place in 2007) and reACT (second place in 2017) making us the international leader in this competition; in six years we’ve placed first twice and were
runner up twice in the HUD Affordable Housing competition; and many other citations. Since the foundation of the School over fifty years ago, design excellence grounded in technical competence has occupied a central place within the curriculum and intellectual life of the Program.
